Join members of the Atlanta Cello Project and cellist, Roee Harran, in this relaxed concert, as we explore the wide range of voices of the cello. The program includes the Popper Requiem for cello trio and piano, Gideon Freudmann’s “Denmark” for cello quintet, and more.

Bach Around the Clock

After more than 300 years, Bach still has something to teach us about the cello. This interactive workshop will feature Baroque cello expert, Erin Ellis, as we explore how to bring Bach and Baroque music to life on our "modern" cellos.
PROGRAM
Part 1 - 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
Demonstration / lecture by Erin Ellis on Baroque music and how we can bring Bach back to life in 2011.
Part 2 - 2:00pm to 3:00 pm.
Master Class by Erin Ellis with 3 volunteers from the Atlanta Cello Project, each playing a different movement from one of the Bach Suites. (If you are interested in volunteering, see the questions that pops up when you RSVP to this Meetup).
Part 3 - 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Play-in for all participants, coached by Erin Ellis. We will play the Prelude from Suite I and the Menuets. To prepare for this part of the workshop:
1. Download the music with bowings by Erin Ellis for the Prelude and Menuets from the "FORM" tab on this meetup page: http://www.meetup.com/Atlanta-Cello-Project/files/
2. Erin has written out a basso continuo line for the Prelude as well. Download the music from the "FORM" tab on this meetup page: http://www.meetup.com/Atlanta-Cello-Project/files/ . She has intentionally omitted markings such as dynamics, bowing etc; we will be talking about how to determine what those should be, so bring your ideas!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Erin Ellis is Baroque-crazy. She earned her PhD in cello performance with a minor in early music from Eastman School of Music, and her bachelor and master degrees in cello performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Put a Bow On It

Atlanta cellist, Mary Beth Hussey, started the March 13th workshop by having us lie on our backs to play our cellos. I knew, at that moment, this would be no ordinary couple of hours working on bow technique. We work so hard on our left hand technique that the right hand often gets short shrift. No chance with Mary Beth. By the end of the workshop, we had been introduced to all manner of finger, wrist, arm, shoulder, and back gymnastics.

The Workshop: “Pinkies and the Brain”
We are wildly delighted to host Emily Wright, nationally-recognized cellist, teacher and blogger, as she presents this afternoon seminar on Music, Cello and the Brain, and how what we know about that can help us learn and memorize music, including:  - First hour, interactive presentation on the topic of Music and the Brain;  - Next, demonstration with volunteers from the audience on how to learn and memorize music.
We have scheduled this Workshop so that you can go to the Concert on the Hill, (free - Charae Krueger playing Beethoven cello sonatas) immediately following the workshop, at the Chapel on the church campus.
